Chapter 2

CHAPTER 2

The sun shines brightly, the flowers are at its blossom, the atmosphere is indeed a warm welcome− it is summer after all.  The alarm kept on sounding yet Lilia is still fast asleep.

“Lilia! Wake up already, you’re going to be late if you stay longer” her mom’s voice sounded from the kitchen.

She slammed the alarm clock, turning it off. Looking at what time it is, 6:30 am. “Oh geez, it’s just start of the school and I’m late” tone in a hurry. She randomly picked her clothes, wore them hurriedly, shoes, and then went downstairs.

“Don’t want some breakfast?” Her dad asked.

Not even turning to her dads direction, “No can do dad, I’ll be late”, saying just as she went to their garage and drove out her car to school.

The bell rang its last warning. “Just in time” Lilia said, still gasping for air.

“Geez Lilia, if you keep that a habit, then you’ll be late the entire year” a familiar voice sounded from behind.

“Oh it’s you Vincent.” She almost shouted. Everyone looked in her direction as if caught by her reaction.

Vincent rubbed her hair ‘till he’s contented, maybe it is a way of saying he’d missed her. “Try to at least look at a mirror before going to school will you” he said teasingly.

Lilia looked at the window to see her reflection. “Oh my, I looked this silly all the way coming to school, how careless of me” she said laughing at herself, “At least rubbing others hair isn’t necessary” she said with grin.

“Well it’s just my habit after all” he said tweaking Lilia’s cheek.

“You better stop it then” tone a bit sharp.

“I can’t, or it’s as if ending my life” he said teasingly.

“So you mean that you live to tease people” her tone now is abrupt.

“No. Just for you”

Lilia looked down hiding her blush. Her heart beats fast as if it’ll explode.

Vincent thought he crossed the line. He stood up and walked back to his seat. The students noisily gathered and picked their places.

A tall thin man introduced himself as Mr. O’Neill. An unfamiliar person stood beside him. A long chocolate hair tied up neatly. The wind caressed his hair loose revealing a pair of deep ash mauve eyes. “He will be joining your class,” he said.

“I’m Laurent Fitzgerald.” He said impassively.

Eyes glared at him. Some look with awe yet dubiously.

“As class representative, Lilia Prescott, why not give him a tour around the campus later.”
Lilia looked around and stood up warily. “Yes.” She smiled. Her eyes met Laurent’s. She felt odd looking in those pair of eyes. There is something that she can’t put her fingers into, something from this person.

The class went on. Mr. O’Neill starts to pass booklets. Lilia kept glancing to him. She was about to tap him when a piece of paper was thrown at her.

Don’t attempt to talk to him Lilia; I have an odd perception towards him. You can just turn over your work to someone else. Believe me.

Vincent

Lilia nodded. “I know but I still have to do it. Thanks.” Tone audible.

The class ended. Other students noisily left. Lilia stood warily hefting her backpack onto one shoulder. She went to Laurent. “Are you ready?” She grinned. “We’ll be going first to the library. Are you fine with that?”

Laurent looked up at her. “Fine” His voice stern.

“Wait up,” a voice sounded from behind. “I’ll join.” It was Vincent.

“No”

“But” He insisted.

Lilia remembered his note earlier. “It’s going to be fine.” She insisted. She grabbed Laurence hand and walked swiftly away avoiding him.

The two of them scouted the whole campus. Each stop was remarkably fine. Lilia kept on talking about the elegance of the campus. She was indeed proud of its exquisite stature.

“Can you let go of my hand now?” His voice was rigid.

Lilia released his hand. She felt warm holding unto it earlier. She laughed out of embarrassment. “I’m sorry.” Her voice now is firm. “I was just trying to avoid others barging in.” She turned and looked at him. “Well I hope I was useful.” She looked at his direction. “I forgot to introduce myself. I’m−”

“Lilia Prescott.” He said.

“Oh yeah right, Mr. O’Neill called me earlier and that’s when you heard my name.” She said with a grin. “It’s the school library. Should we go inside?”

The library was packed with students. Soft voices reverberated in the area −barely audible. They went up to the next floor. More shelves. Fewer students are in here. The window sills are blocked by dark scarlet curtains making the room sullen for studies.

Lilia moved the curtains aside. Lights shone brightly in the room. “Here is the High School section.” She smiled slyly. “Maybe you should see this.” She pulled a wooden stack ladder and climbed up few steps before reaching into an old book by the corner of the shelf. It was a century old. “This book here holds the secret of the school foundation. There was a legend that here in what we stood now is a door to another world. This school had a legend that it was formerly an academy of magi’s. None were able to prove it except this book which had the same age as of this school. They believe it holds a secret to this school lore.” She turned around, lost her balance then fell on the floor. “Don’t worry I’m fine. It’s normal for me to fall or even lost my balance. That’s just me. Well I don’t believe in those myths. I just want to tell you though.” She laughed nervously. The fall hurts but she kept it all to herself.

Laurent picked up the book. It carries a carved seal maybe century old. As he put his finger on it, it shone a faint light. The light entangled him. He felt as if it was his. He was enraptured at that moment.

Lilia snatched the book from his hands. “Sorry for the ruckus I made. We should head back, lunch will be over soon.” She said looking up to him. “I myself feel odd when holding this book. As if it was calling me to open it. It was locked from the beginning; no one was able to open it until.”

He grabbed her hand and put the book back himself.

“Thanks”

The bell rang. Students are already heading back to their class. The hallway is quite packed. The students noisily went back to their rooms.

“You can head first to the lab. I . . .  have to get something first.” She said covertly.

Laurent walked into the crowd. His shirt and loose fitting pants seems the same with others but there is something that sets him apart, His confident stride.

She lost sight of him. Lilia tried to muster strength into her stride but her fall earlier affected her much. She can hardly walk.

A hand reached into her. “Let’s go back together.” It was Laurent. His voice was low yet firm.

Lilia nodded.

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Twilight was gathering. The birds were falling silent in the trees, as if the approach of night stifled their voices, and the nearby mountains were turning black. A clash sounded afar, in the realms of la De Valliere. A macabre night, blood is seen anywhere. Screams of terror, rage, and fear reverberated all throughout the surroundings.

‘Brianna Novak’, an Arch magi −powerful wizard− was trudging to reach the throne room where her Lady was. “Lady Odette!” said abruptly, “The mansion is under attacked, and it is my duty to make sure of la De Valliere’s safety” her voice agitated

“As the Queen of this realm, I won’t turn my back to my people nor accept defeat” her lady exclaimed.
“Lady Odette, this isn’t the time to be saying−” her thoughts wandered
A blast just outside the room was heard. “Milady, if you really insist, then I will stay by your side” said in a sharp tone
“Thanks Brianna but I have another thing I ask of you”
“What is it that in my power will be done” kneeling down to her lady
“Now that Zelpusto wants to take over my land, I ought to use my last resort to stop them” walking away toward the opposite room.
As the door opened the room behind revealed nothing but elegance. At the center is where her child lays asleep. She holds her up to her chest, cradling her for the last time” she stood up warily
“And to that, I need you to take this child away from this rotten world of ours” she demanded, her tone sharp
“Would that mean taking her to−”, cut a short by her lady.
“It is the only way, and by the time of her awakening then she will return here and reclaim the throne and bring forth a new golden age for Halchegenia!” Lady Odette proclaimed

The door behind them blasted open. Knights are already behind them.

“Come with me milady” grabbing her wrist.

They run toward the opposite door leading to the front door of the mansion. But a strong wind was casted upon them from behind. The queen stopped running and casted a barrier behind her.

“Milady, are you alright, can you still run?” she asked
“I… I’m fine, you go ahead, find a safe place to hide…” she replied ghastly
“No! This isn’t right; his highness left you in my care to assure your safety. I can’t let that happen”
“Have you forgot my word, Brianna, go now, I’ll do what I have to do and so you do. I know this is sudden but this is the right thing to do for us, for the Halchegenia”

A knight suddenly appeared behind, armed to kill, has an engraved crest of Zelpusto right on his brass plate.
“Going somewhere?” the voice insisted

A vast wind entered the room; in an instant the stranger had struck his rapier to milady.

“Run now! Go! Leave me here, I ask thy god to guide y...your w...way…”
A shed of tear marks thy face and yet run; still beckoning a doubt in leaving yet dredged up by the oath then urged on.
“Get your hands of me! Why can’t you just die? I have to finish them off”
“As if I’d let you do that, ‘Thou hast be happy with thy end of la De Valliere’ in a sharp tone, fear nor regret can be seen on thy face.

“Del on zial vak!”

A humongous light strike from the heavens straight to the realms, as the light shone through it swallowed whole the mansion leaving no trace.

It was pitch black in the forest of Losailles, an evergreen forest known for being the door to another world. The blast from the mansion blew up the trees, birds panicked and so as other animals. The wind is odd, as the two survivors went deeper and deeper into the forest. The air got dense. A rustle of leaves sounded nearby.

“I should think of a way to find a safe place for my lady, or else”, the voice gasped
“Brianna?” a faint tone whispered
“No worries my lady, it will all be over soon−she casted her lady to sleep−I’m sorry”

She laid her lady in a log just at the center of the forest, vine gnarled around, darkness as if swallowing every creature in sight. There was rustle behind them, and appeared yet another of Zelpusto knights.

“I will never forgive myself if something will happen to my lady, so don’t you ever get near her.”

A boisterous laugh reverberated in the forest.

“You leave me no choice, ‘nol dol pusto zeng dest, thy lady travel to this vast new world!’”, she casted savagely
“Don’t take your eyes off to your opponent”, sounded behind

Brianna was struck by the sudden attack, a sword stuck up right to her chest just as she finished her cast. A light hovered from the heavens striking straight to the forest, a mist suddenly build up, encircling all of them in sight. It swallowed them up, leaving to trace of life. A faint glow came from where her lady lay.The clouds stirred up forming a vast circle and at the core was the strange light. It shines brightly in different hues no one had ever seen.

The mist slowly faded away. Soon, there was no trace of the child nor dead corpse but only a trail in the heavens.

Halchegenia− a realm of magic− where dreams are realistic, impossible are possible, life is abundant due to MAGIC. In this vast realm involves two life−LIGHT AND DARK− temptation is unavoidable and so as deceit. Here is sought a strict rule which is complete isolation of darkness. A part of this kingdom is kept at its slumber over centuries, yet it wouldn’t matter for the kingdom is kept at its balance by two families that have joined hand in hand centuries ago. The la De Valliere and Zelpusto. Until the moment came when the darkness ravaged the land and became rebel forming Reconquista which opposes the whole realm. The day of the prophecy came, an eclipse occurred. It is also when Queen Eifa, wife of Xerxes, gave birth to a twin. The sun is slowly being blocked by the moon, the first boy of Zelpusto − Laurent− just made it before the sky completely darkened, unfortunately for Vincent born in darkness.  Their chest shone brightly as their family crest been engraved. A strange light glowed from Vincent; his crest grew dark as if a mark of curse. It is in the prophecy after all, that twins in royal family is unbearable and only forfeits darkness. The Zelpusto can’t bear the prophecy yet they threw their second child to isolation, from then King Xerxes became dark and sullen. King Xerxes Zelpusto was easily tempted by a reconquista, igniting the family to go abrupt and engage in war with its long time comrade−King Taranis la De Valliere.

Then so came the war that lasted for thousands of years −‘MAGISTRIFE’.
